Area Guides » Dulwich Village
The sweetest little village in London, this Georgian rural idyll has changed not a jot since being swallowed by London. How this is possible is pretty confusing, but it is the case. The park is one of the great pulls as is the oldest public art gallery in the UK - The Dulwich Picture Gallery. The Greyhound pub and surrounding restaurants, cafes and shops all studiously help maintain a feel of yesteryear's superiority over the present. Many of the roads are very sleepy indeed, with Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian, and modern housing stock with a number of premium, private-access developments from the 30's through to modern times. Many of the residents benefit from the excellent Dulwich Village infants School as well as many of the excellent independent schools including Dulwich College, Alleyns and The James Allen schools. Prices do reflect the feel of the place, but you definitely get what you pay for.
